Ability beyond Disability

APDK in collaboration with CISU and 100% for children from Denmark implemented the “Ability beyond Disability” project.

Objective 

The overall objective of this project is to test lived experiences low-cost methodologies to enhance a stronger inclusion of persons with disabilities, especially youth with disabilities in the job market. 

Activity 

  • This involved Testing of methodology, whereby a selected number of parents to youth with a disability are trained to become Economic empowerment mentors 
  • Capacity building of 10 youth ambassadors with disabilities to carry out awareness-raising campaigns to target and influence stakeholders through advocacy activities.
  • Achievements 

    • The project trained 15 selected APDK staff from the Nairobi branch and the National Office on advocacy for inclusion in the job market. 
    • The project trained 25 parents on Economic empowerment and mentorship 
    • Engaged 10 youth ambassadors with disabilities between the ages of 20-30 on an initiative to carry out awareness and engage in campaigns targeting various stakeholders through advocacy activities.  
    • A total of 11 (8F,3M) persons with disabilities secure employment. 
    • The 10 ambassadors developed advocacy messages used to campaign for inclusive in all aspects of life
    • Advocacy Strategies earning papers 

     

    • Compiled a Learning Paper
