Our role in occupation therapy is to;
Evaluate and train the clients’ in self- care activities such as dressing, eating, and personal hygiene to maximize independence
Aid in maintain and improving joint range of motion, coordination, muscle strength and endurance through use of purposeful activities.
Explore vocational training in home management skills, using simpler methods, or aids to minimize fatigue and conserve energy
Evaluate and train client to compensate for sensory and perceptual deficits taking personal social and cultural testes in consideration
Evaluate the home and suggest modifications to provide a barrier free environment
Uses orthoses and adaptive equipment when necessary
Educate the patient’s family by demonstrating techniques designed to maintain independence
Encourage peer support among parents, guardians and persons with disabilities
Embrace the rights based approach to inclusive education, rehabilitation, socially, economically and politically
Sensitize and create awareness to communities on early intervention and preventive measures
