About Promoting provision of clean water

APDK recognizes that access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene is important for realization the basic human rights as per the “Sustainable Millennium Goal 6” on Clean Water. Access to clean water is related to right to life, right to health and right to an adequate standard of living.  In addition to being vital for human health, water is also necessary for ecosystems, education, human rights, food security, peace, and poverty alleviation.

APDK in collaboration with the CBM Canada took the responsibility to address rights of school going children as stated in the National school health policy, that is, “Every child has a right to access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation which is complemented by appropriate hygiene promotion and education”. The project aimed at improvement of the health of children especially children with special needs who are in the mainstream schools and special schools for embittering participation and performance in the education and also aimed at achieving the universal primary education and improved health which are key factors in the millennium development goals. The project resulted in 

  • Opportunities for schools to be trained on sanitation and hygiene through the Ministry of health by the public health officer’s in charge of school health program. 
  • Provision adequate and safe drinking water.
  • Improved personal and environmental hygiene
