Access to personal mobility

The Challenge

Wheelchair accessibility is a complex issue that affects millions of individuals globally. It is estimated that over 1% of the world’s population, need wheelchairs for increased mobility (WHO). The United Nations Convention has affirmed the right for persons with disability to access to affordable mobility aids. According to WHO poverty and disability are closely linked, hence majority of wheelchair-dependent persons are unable to purchase wheelchairs for themselves.

The Solution

APDK in collaboration with the government and developmental partners promotes access to personal mobility to enable persons with disabilities attain and maintain maximum independence through fabrication of quality assistive aids and appropriate wheelchairs using the WHO manual wheelchair guidelines. Provision of appropriate wheelchairs, enables persons with disabilities; Access inclusive education, as stated in Article 24 on inclusive education. Enable persons with disabilities attend healthcare facilities and get medical care, Access employment opportunities
